|Support for Healthy Cities Activities|
In 2009, at the beginning of the Phase V of WHO Healthy Cities Network in Europe (2009-2013) the association encourages both old and new cities in the Baltic Sea Region to apply to be a member in Phase V. The Association organises visits, meetings and other supportive activities for the network cities in order to increase the awareness of health and strengthen the role of health promotion and Healthy Cities.
In Phase V the coordination of the Healthy Cities networks within WHO will be reorganised. The secretariat will be outsourced to Collaborating Centre or other external partners. Baltic Region Healthy Cities Association will actively work on having the possibility to coordinate the work in the Baltic Sea Region.
A special attention in 2009-2010 is paid to Latvia and Lithuania in order to increase their awareness of health and strengthen the role of health promotion and Healthy Cities.
Furthermore, during 2009-2010 the association will widen and strengthen the co-operation with Healthy Cities and National networks. This is planned to be done as visits to the network cities and to the meetings of the National Networks, which will be increased. The Association supports benchmarking/peer review of the best practises between the networks cities and different activities are organised to support this work. The model used in Latvia in 2008 will be followed.
