Association, as the expert on health and health promotion in the Baltic Sea Region participates actively in the project planning. Following projects are currently under development: ILTRAS: Innovative Learning Transfer for Sustainability The project is coordinated by Åbo Akademi University and it aims to contribute to regional integration by creating innovation environments, enabling cross-sectoral stakeholders to interact and develop new ways of thinking which are indispensable for formulating sustainable solutions to the environmental, economic and social challenges seen in the Baltic Sea Region. It involves all members of society, disregarding age, position in life and social sector belonging. It has more than 20 international partners around the Baltic Sea Region. The goal of the work package (WP) of the Association in the project is to strengthen the cooperation in the cities related to the issues of elderly people. Bringing the actors together strengthens the cooperation and enhances the capacities of elderly people to be able to live at home longer and healthier. This is done by creating multi-stakeholder networks and activities which support both mental and physical capacity of the elderly. The project is planned to be carried out during years 2009-2011. DIALOG Integrated Approach to Health and Sustainable Economic Development in Baltic Sea Region The Association was a partner in HEPRO-project (Focus on Health and Social Well-being in the Baltic Sea Region) and also provided assistance in the coordination of one of the Work Packages of the project during 2005-2007. As a continuation a new project was planned during 2008 to utilise the tools and experiences of the HEPRO-project’s results. The Association will actively participate in the planning of the new project in an initiative group lead by Østfold County Council (Norway) and North Jutland Region (Denmark). The role, responsibilities, funding and details of the project will be clarified during 2008-2009 in the initiative group. From the point of view of the Association the project will be closely linked to the development of the Baltic Profile. HEAL – Health-enhancing physical activity in welfare municipality The aim of the project is to evaluate the adoption of the strategic approach of physical activity and active living and integration of this approach as a part of the city development in their well-being strategies. The project is a follow-up for the Finnish-Estonian ‘Partner in Well-being through physical activity in cross-border co-operation’ –project. The idea of the continuation project will be implemented between Finland and Estonia. This continuation project will also gather and produce material on physical activity to support the cities’ activities and also to disseminate this strategic work to new cities. Social- and health sector will be included in the project.
